In brief, National Recruitment Agency  is a central agency established by the Indian Government . The agency will conduct a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for selection to non-gazetted posts in the central government and public sector banks. NRA has representatives of Ministry of RailwaysDepartment of Financial Services, the SSC, RRB & IBPS. 

National Recruitment Agency (NRA) is proposed to be a multi-agency body and it will shortlist the candidates for Group B and Group C (non-technical) posts through a Common Eligibility Test (CET). The Agency will be registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.

For the time being, the scores of Common Eligibility Test will be used by three major recruitment agencies, but in the coming years, the other recruitment agencies of the Central Government will adopt the same.

The Validity of CET Scores

It is important to note that the marks scored by a  candidate in Common Eligibility Test will be valid for a period of three years from the date of declaration of the result. 

The best of the valid scores shall be deemed to be the current score of the candidate. Also, there is no restriction on the number of attempts to appear in the CET subject to the upper age limit.

The relaxation in the upper age limit is given to SC/ST/OBC and other categories candidates, as per the policy of the Government.

NRA CET 2021 Eligibility Criteria (NRA CET: Why not Apply? )

The CET Eligibility Criteria is same as the existing SSC/ IBPS or RRB eligibility. However, there will be three different NRA CET exams based on the three different eligibility criteria :

    1. NRA CET for 10th Pass
    2. NRA CET for 12th Pass
    3. NRA CET for Graduates
Eligibility for 10th Pass (NRA CET: Why not Apply? )
  • Nationality – Candidates must be citizens of India
  • Age Limit – Candidates should be aged between 18 and 23 years
  • Educational Qualification – Candidates must have passed Class 10 from a recognized board. Candidates appearing for their qualifying examination (Class 10) are not eligible for the exam
Eligibility​ for 12th Pass
  • Nationality – Candidates must be citizens of India
  • Age Limit – Candidates should be aged between 20 and 25 years
  • Educational Qualification – Candidates must have passed the Class 12th/ Senior Secondary Board Exam from a recognized board.
Eligibility for Graduates
  • Nationality – Candidates must be citizens of India

Examination Centers for CET

The examination centers  of Common Eligibility Test (CET) are proposed to be set up in all the districts pan India to enhance access to the candidates located in the remote areas. This will provide easy access to examination centers for the rural candidates.

For example, the Age limit in SSC CHSL exam is 18 to 27 years so for the 12th level CET exam we can expect the age limit from 18 to 27 years. Please note that it is just an assumption and the actual Age Limit will be informed by the National Recruitment after the release of the official Common Eligibility Test notification in 2021.

Is UPSC under NRA? (NRA CET: Why not Apply?)

No. Both Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) and National Recruitment Agency (NRA) are entirely different recruitment agencies.

As you know, UPSC is responsible to manage the central-level recruitment for mostly Group A and Group B such as Civil Services exam. While, National Recruitment Agency (NRA) is another recruitment agency which will manage the Group C and Group D recruitment for central government.
