You should  fulfill the following eligibility criteria to apply for the Bank Clerk Examination :

Age Limit

The Age Must be Between 20 to 28 Years.

Age Relaxation

There are 5 years age relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years age relaxation for OBC category.

For Ex-Servicemen and Disabled Ex-Servicemen, the Actual period of service rendered in defense services + 3 years ( 8 years for Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC/ST) subject to max. age of 50 years .

Educational Qualification

The candidate must have a Graduation Degree from any stream  from a government recognized university . Only the valid mark sheet is considered .

Besides, proficiency in  official language of the state and operational knowledge of computer are the prerequisites .

Nationality / Citizenship

Indian Citizenship is required . A subject of Nepal / Bhutan or the Tibetan Refugee who shifted to India before January 1, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India are also eligible .

Besides the above criteria, a candidate must also not hold any criminal record while applying for the examination .

Bank Clerk Examinations Details

IBPS and SBI are the major recruiters for bank clerks . The examination pattern is similar for all the banks .

The examination is conducted in two phases : Preliminary ( NRA CET ) and Mains .

You have to clear both the phases to be finally recruited, on the basis of Merit List, as a bank clerk. There is no interview.

About IBPS - CWE

The Banking Industry is recruiting in a big way. In the next few years, banks will have to recruit lakhs of candidates.

IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) conducts series of CWEs in a year – once for each of PO (General Banking Officer – GBO), Clerical (Single Window Operator – SWO), Specialist Officers for recruitment  into the Public Sector Banks and Regional Rural Banks to cater to the need of the industry and also to the needs of job aspirants .

Each candidate will be required to obtain a minimum score in each section. There will be a second level cut-off point on total as per requirement. Depending on the number of vacancies available, cut-offs will be decided and candidates will be shortlisted for interview         ( For PO ) .

Prior to the completion of the interview process, scores obtained in the on-line examination will not be shared with the candidates shortlisted for interview .

There are no interviews for Clerks. Final selection for Clerks is based on the marks obtained in Main Examination .

Marks obtained only in the Main examination will be considered for short listing for interview ( for PO ) and also for Final merit listing .

Common Interviews for Bank Jobs

To put a check on multiple selections, IBPS has introduced a system of common interview  :

  • Candidates who qualify in the CWE will be called for a Common Interview to be co-ordinated by IBPS .
  • Order of preference for Banks will be obtained from candidates at the time of applying for the CWE.
  • Candidates, successful in qualifying in both the CWE and Common Interview will be listed in the order of merit .
  • Based on the total marks ( CWE + CI ) as well as the indication of order of preference of Banks and available vacancies, candidate will receive through a computerized system an offer from one of the Participating Public Sector Banks.
  • Vacancies remaining unfilled on account of candidates declining offer, will be filled from among the remaining candidates .

Cut – Offs

The Job aspirant  should not  plan his/her preparation based on the cut-offs . One needs to score exceptionally high in written examination in order to be called for Interview.
