PROBLEMS BASED ON ALPHABETS
To solve the problems based on alphabets quickly :
- Remember the position of each letter in the alphabet series.
For example, the positions of E and S in the alphabet series are 5th and 19th .
- Remember the position of each letter when the alphabet series is written in the reverse order.
For example, the positions of X and D would be 3rd and 23rd respectively when the series is written in the reverse order .

(Q.1) Which of the following will come next the series below ?
MAN, KZP, IBR, GYT, ?
Solution : The first letter goes two steps back in the successive groups.
The second letter goes one step forward in odd number terms and one step backward in even number terms. The third letter goes two steps forward in each group.
Answer : ECV
(Q.2) Which of the following will come next in the series given below ?
KUZ, MOX, OIV, QET, ?
Solution : The first letters of the successive groups are K, M, O, Q . Clearly, the first letter of the next group will be S .
Similarly, the second letters of the successive groups are U, O, I, E. Clearly, the second letter of the next group would be the fourth letter to the left of ‘E’ in the alphabet. It is ‘A’ .
The third letters are Z, X, V, T. Clearly, the third letter of the next group in the above series would be ‘R’.
Answer : SAR

(Q.1) If with the help of 3, 5, 6, 11 and 12th letter of the word ‘ CENTRALISATION ’ a word can be formed then write the middle letter of the word, otherwise write ‘X’.

(Q.2) If it is possible to make a meaningful word with the 3, 4, 5, 7 and 10th letter of the word
‘ PERSONALITY ’, write the first letter of that word, otherwise write ‘X’.
Solution : ROAST

(Q.3) If it is possible to make a meaningful word with the third, the fourth and the eleventh letter of the word ‘ CONTROVERSIAL ’ write the first letter of the word, otherwise write ‘X’.

The meaningful word is TIN. Hence, the answer is T .
(Q.4) If it is possible to make meaningful word with the second, fourth, sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth letters of the word ‘LEUTENANT’ when arranged ? Write the first letter of the word thus formed, otherwise write ‘X’.
Solution : ETNANT . The meaningful word is TENANT.

(Q.5) If it is possible to make a meaningful word with the third, the fifth, the sixth, the seventh and the eighth letter of the word ‘ FOUNDATION ’ write the first letter of that word, otherwise

(Q.1) If the first four letters of the word ‘ ANTHRODOMORAHISM ’ are written in the reverse order followed by the next four written in reverse order followed by the next four written in the reverse order and so on, which letter is the 12th in the written order ?

First divide the word in the groups of four letters by underlining them, starting from the left. Now, it is clear that the answer is ‘M’.
NOTE : For solving this kind of questions, one should not write the groups of letters in the reverse order. It is needless and time consuming.
(Q.2) If the first and the sixth letters in the word ‘ PRINCIPLES ’ were interchanged, also the second and the seventh letters, the third and the eight and so on, which letter would be the seventh letter counting from your right ?

Solution : If the given words are arranged as in the dictionary, then the word ‘ INTIMATION ’ will appear last . Hence, ‘I’ is the answer as it is the fourth letter of the word INTIMATION.
(Q.17) If the letters of the word ‘ RATIONALISATION ’ are arranged alphabetically, then which letter would be the farthest from the first letter in the word ?

Clearly, ‘T’ will be the farthest letter from the first letter ‘A’ when RATIONALISATION is arranged alphabetically.
(Q.18) If the first four letters of the word ‘ ANTHRODOMORAHISM ’ are written in the reverse order followed by the next four written in reverse order followed by the next four written in the reverse order and so on, which letter is the 12th in the written order ?
